Arches in light:
ten years of Expo Bridges
This is one of those projects that can be described as timeless and consistently correct in its approach, where the design principles that guided us in defining the lighting concept remain valid and relevant today.
For the Expo bridges, precision and accuracy were the core principles around which we worked during the months of development. The key objectives were to achieve no visible fixtures and no beam dispersion, consequently eliminating upward light spill.
To illuminate the five arches—each with cross-sections developing on different axes—we worked from two strategic points, employing extremely precise optics and beams that were carefully studied, calculated, and tested on-site.
It was essential that the final result respected the initial design intent: beams of light readable as a single, uninterrupted brushstrokes on the infrastructure’s arches, uniform and continuous to the eye, without any breaks or interruptions.
It is remarkable that, after ten years, the installation continues to perform exactly as originally designed.
