BADRUTT’S PALACE HOTEL
SANKT MORITZ
The new Serlas Wing project emerges as a complete reconstruction, deeply rooted in the village context through a respectful and cohesive approach. The building weaves into the urban fabric by valorizing local materials and craftsmanship, maintaining the continuity of the porticoes and carefully studying the internal connections between communicating buildings.
The architectural philosophy, developed by ACPV ARCHITECTS Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, aims to celebrate traditional local architecture through contemporary language, evoking the pure, solid volumes of historic buildings with their deeply recessed windows, as seen in the 16th-century Chesa Planta.
The lighting concept is articulated across three distinct intervention levels: exterior spaces, public areas and internal circulation, and guest rooms. In external circulation spaces, such as the portico hosting commercial activities, light is designed to enhance the materiality of local stone and the rhythm of openings.
The connection between Badrutt and the new Serlas wing features a cluster downlight system that intuitively guides movement through the space, while internal corridors, transitioning towards more private spaces, are distinguished by a more intimate material palette and adequate lighting levels: dark wood boiserie, indirect lighting in elevator lobbies, and light accents on artworks and signage.
The guestrooms embrace an intimate atmosphere through warm materials and enveloping fabrics. Light is always carefully balanced, with highly shielded sources, seamlessly integrated into furniture details and completed by decorative lamps selected for reading and ambient lighting. Particular attention is dedicated to lighting scenarios and useful light, such as nighttime service illumination.
The lighting design is founded on the reading and interpretation of architectural choices, enhancing their meaning and elevating their character. Light is not an added element, but the necessary completion that restores wholeness to the architectural gesture, celebrating the encounter between Alpine tradition and contemporary sensibility.
