LIGHTING NARRATIVES IN NAUTICAL DESIGN

Quality and Precision in extraordinary contexts

July 2th, 2025

We had the privilege of participating in Palagi’s Lighting Design Workshop, where we engaged with industry professionals in meaningful discussions about market challenges and the critical aspects of operating in this beautiful yet demanding and complex sector.
Paolo Giovane, Project Manager at Metis Lighting, presented our experience as Lighting Designers through a comprehensive presentation structured in multiple phases. We began by introducing our company and our design philosophy, then walked through our main design methodology, essentially transversal across all project categories, while emphasizing the atypical constraints and limitations specific to the marine sector such as restricted ceiling heights, glare management, and the need for highly customized solutions. Of particular relevance and significance was the opportunity to discuss how all these factors influence our design decisions through specific case studies.
We then had a more didactic moment about the use of warm dimming technology, which we have already explored in this article and which we strive to apply in contexts, such as the nautical sector, where it represents a true added value.
We concluded the conversation with general considerations and reflections about the importance of light, as an architectural element, in spatial perception and the importance of integrating a lighting project from the earliest concept stages to achieve optimal and high-quality outcomes.

The nautical sector represents for us a particularly interesting and challenging field. Below are some projects we are proud of, which address many of the themes covered in our presentation.
