Hashira was born as a custom lighting fixture for a Private Villa lighting project before becoming a standard product. In the living room of the residence, it wasn’t possible to mount any lighting fitting on the wall or the ceiling due to the superintendent’s restrictions.

Metis came up with the idea to create a floor free standing lighting structure that would integrate necessary diffuse ambient light together with direct light on the featured ceilings decorated with frescos.

The body of the lamp is made with sandblasted diffuse light with fluorescent linear fittings in addition to adjustable halogen lamps mounted on the top. The dichroic lamps can be directed upwards providing homogeneous illumination revealing these particular ceilings while placed on the corners of the room, while maintaining a domestic atmosphere given the diffuse ambient light.

The lamp even if originally conceived as a technical solution, it became a sophisticated furniture piece, launched in the market by Fontana Arte.
