CUSTOM MADE LIGHT FIXTURE

Design Metis Lighting
Manufacturer Fontana Arte

Hashira was born as a custom lighting fixture for a Private Villa lighting project before becoming a standard product. In the living room of the residence, it wasn’t possible to mount any light fitting on the wall or the ceiling due to the superintendent’s restrictions.

Metis came up with the idea to create a floor free standing lighting device that would provide necessary diffuse ambient light together with direct light on the ceilings decorated with frescos.

The body of the lamp is made of a structure holding linear fluorescent tubes hidden behind a sandblasted glass covering. On the top of the lamp, adjustable halogen lamps are installed and provide upwards directed light. The dichroic lamps reveal the particular ceilings in a very uniform way, while placed on the corners of the room. At the same time, the diffusing light emanated from the body of the lamps deliver a domestic atmosphere.

The lamp even if it was originally conceived as a technical structure for serving a design challenge, it became a sophisticated furniture piece, launched in the market by Fontana Arte.
