Metis joined the Kenzo design team providing feedback for improvement of the existing lighting project included from the renovation led by the new artistic directors, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon. This new vision included a fresh palette of finishings, with grayscale hues, concrete ruvid textures and shiny lucid metal elements.
The main issue was that the existing lighting levels weren’t sufficient and also differentiated providing the necessary focus on the products. The strategy was to balance on one hand the illuminance produced from the ceiling luminous grid, a design element giving character to the whole space, and the millwork integrated fixture providing a certain amount of light in the boutique and the products, and on the other hand, the direct light from the downlights.
For this reason, the luminous grid was developed as a custom lighting fixture for providing the correct amount of light without resulting glary.
The lighting scheme introduced another light level and light quality, adding grazing light on the perimetral walls of the space providing a brighter backdrop for the products. The next lighting gesture is the integration of linear lighting fixtures in the hanging structures and shelves.
The distribution of the ceiling downlights and the selection of the light fitting with the proper specifications in terms of luminance, beam angle and colour rendering, were fundamental for obtaining the necessary focus and contrast in the whole image of the space.
