YACHT SD 92
Illuminating the Sanlorenzo Yacht SD 92 was a rather challenging process, trying to unify technology, creativity and special restriction of naval design.
The Sanlorenzo SD 92 was a rather innovative boat both in terms of mechanics, performance and style. The interior design was inspired by the cruiseships of the 1930’s and 1940’s with a modern approach. The cream colour of the boat’s hull is an aesthetic reference to the 1970’s sailboats. The interior design maintains the white and cream hues with teak, mahogany and rosewood details.
Metis Lighting elaborated a lighting concept based on an extended layer of diffuse light for enhancing the brightness of the interior design colour palette, as well as reducing any possible glare from eventual punctual light.
Diffuse light is provided by perimetral ceiling coves outlining the various halls and rooms. In the central living room, a central ceiling mounted design feature introduced by the interior design as another reference to the 1930’s design consists of a rosewood frame with onyx parts. In this ceiling feature, linear lighting fixtures are integrated providing general light.
Over the dining table, another ceiling feature made of glass and with integrated light becomes an important decorative element giving out pleasant sparkles and lush.
Naval design imposes a series of restriction for the sustainability, safety and comfort of the lighting system and designing within this framework Is always an interesting challenge to cope with.
